R. Schumann: Fantasie Op. 17

Performing regularly in major venues in Europe and North America, Maria McGarry has received consistent praise from critics for her intuitive musicianship, depth of interpretation and uniquely personal style. Debút recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall and the National Concert Hall in Dublin received much acclaim. Awarded the coveted Artist Diploma in Performance from the Juilliard School in 2003, she is one of a select group of musicians to receive this accolade.

Performing Spanish music is a particular niche of Maria’s and she will play the well-known ‘Los Requiebros’ as well as the much-loved ‘Maiden and the Nightingale’ from ‘Goyescas’ by Enrique Granados (a suite for solo piano inspired by the paintings of Goya). The 2nd half of the recital programme is devoted to Schumann’s Fantasie in C major Op. 17, arguably his crowning masterpiece for solo piano.
“instinctive imagination and musicianship…a model of how to let music play for itself…” The Irish Times
