Franz Joseph Haydn Trio in E major, Hob.XV No.28
Dmitri Shostakovich Piano Trio No.2 in E minor Op.67
Antonín Dvofiák Piano Trio No.4 in E minor “Dumky”

This is truly a stunning selection of works played by a stellar cast.
The Trio no 2 by Shostakovich was written in the summer of 1944 in the midst of WWII, on the occasion of the death of a friend. The trio, however like many of Shostakovich’s works, seems to comment more broadly on the tenor of the times suggesting an elegy for the tragic victims of war in general. Dvorák displayed special skill in writing for chamber ensembles, producing dozens of such works. Among these, his 14 string quartets (1862-1895), the “American” Quintet (1893) and the “Dumky” Trio (1890-1891) are outstanding examples of their respective genres, overflowing with attractive folk like melodies. Prominent French cellist Marc Coppey will join Elizabeth and Finghin in an eight concert Irish tour.

This is Marc’s second visit to Sligo where he made a great impression a few years ago in his appearance with Finghin Collins.
