G.F. Handel:       Sinfonia (HWV 338)

G.F. Handel:       Silete Venti (HWV 242)

G.F. Handel:       Il Delirio Amoroso (HWV 99)

This programme features sublime music by Handel for solo soprano and orchestra, centred around Il Delirio Amoroso / The Delirium of Love. This cantata was written during Handel’s spell in Italy in his early career and was first performed in 1707. It is a stunning work with a virtuosic soprano line, complemented by beautiful solo writing for oboe, recorder and cello. Il Delirio is beautifully contracted by the lavish Silete Venti, which is one of Handel’s most wonderful motets. It is a work in five contracting movements, culminating in a virtuosic Alleluia – which epitomises Handelian splendour in the complex writing. A true gem! We are delighted to welcome British soprano Joanne Lunn to Sligo. Joanne is a leading Baroque singer in great demand the world over.
