Linda Buckley is unquestionably one of the most exciting, prolific and ecstatic composers to come from Ireland in recent times.’’(RTÉ) Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14 ‘Moonlight’ needs no introduction. It stands as the composer’s most famous and most loved solo piano piece. Jean Françaix was a pupil of Ravel, a prolific composer and pianist. The Trio à Cordes is lively, witty and spirited: A GEM! Both Clara and her husband Robert Schumann composed many songs over the course of their composing careers and Michael has arranged three of them, two by Clara and one by Robert, for piano quartet. Brahms’ G minor Op. 25 piano quartet is scored for piano, violin, viola and cello. In 1861 the quartet had its world premiere in Hamburg, featuring pianist Clara Schumann.

The Vanbrugh Quartet were frequent and welcome visitors to our series. Following the retirement of violinist Gregory Ellis, Keith, Simon and Chris continue as The Vanbrugh and perform with selected guest artists, on this occasion with the exceptional Irish pianist Michael McHale.
