Vivaldi Overture to l’Olimpiade RV 725
Vivaldi Concerto for two Cellos in G minor RV 531
Vivaldi Concerto for four Violins in B minor RV 580
Vivaldi The four seasons (Le quattro stagioni)

The legendary IBO returns to Sligo with a programme of works by Vivaldi, celebrating the virtuoso violin & culminating with his perennial favourite, The Four Seasons. The “Red Priest’s” lesser known works will also be explored including his fiery concerto for 4 solo violins, as well as the stormy concerto for 2 cellos. Principal IBO bassoonist, Peter Whelan, who has won a Gramophone Award for his interpretation of Vivaldi, directs the Irish Baroque Orchestra. This is the first in a new series of Players Direct for Irish Baroque Orchestra.

The Irish Baroque Orchestra is like no other group performing in Ireland today. Driven by the belief that the best things in life stand the test of time, the orchestra allows Irish audiences to experience the beauty of baroque music as it was intended to be heard.

“Whelan’s period-instrument bassoon sounded warm and inviting even in the most gnarly passagework….”  – Boston Classical Review

The recital will be followed by a Meet the Artist reception. All welcome.
