Welcome 2010-2011

Ian Wilson, Con Brio, Programme DirectorIt is with great pleasure and much anticipation that I welcome you to the new Con Brio season. Now that The Model has re-opened we will present most of our concerts in the impressive new performance space there, which allows us to programme ensembles of varying sizes. I’m delighted that as well as welcoming back our friends the Irish Chamber Orchestra, we will introduce both the Irish Baroque Orchestra and, from Spain, Concerto M├ílaga, and it will be very exciting to hear larger- scale repertoire spanning the ages, and the continent, of such high calibre.

On a more intimate scale we are pleased to welcome back one of our favourite pianists, Hugh Tinney, as well as, for the first time, the violin and piano duo of Elizabeth Cooney and Elisaveta Blumina and the wonderful Carducci Quartet, which has been blazing an impressive trail in the UK and further afield in the past few years.

We are offering a rare chance to hear the duo of soprano Lenneke Ruiten and pianist Finghin Collins with a beautiful programme of songs and lieder and, finally, we are happy to welcome back from Italy the Trio di Parma, who made such a positive impression the last time they were here.

The present economic climate is far from conducive to running an ambitious, firstclass concert series like ours and so we rely on you, our audience, to continue to support us so that we in turn can continue to provide outstanding music for the city.
