Ian Wilson, Con Brio Sligo Music Series IrelandI?m delighted to present the 2009/2010 Con Brio season. It will not have escaped your notice that belts everywhere are being tightened so I am especially pleased that Con Brio has managed to maintain its usual number of concerts and high calibre of music making. This season perhaps features a higher proportion of Irish performers than usual, but this is as much as anything a reflection of the wonderful talent the country has to offer these days.

We welcome to Sligo for the first time two of Britain?s leading musicians – violinist Tasmin Little and guitarist Amanda Cook ? and also making their Con Brio debuts, Ireland?s Ensemble Avalon plus the wonderful violin and accordion duo of Katherine Hunka and Dermot Dunne. We?re always pleased to greet old friends, and it?s been too long since Catherine Leonard and Hugh Tinney last played here; their programme of Beethoven and Debussy should be one of the season?s highlights. Also returning to Sligo are the superb Vanbrugh Quartet and the very popular Míceál O?Rourke.

The repertoire on offer this season is as wide as ever, from Renaissance guitar music and Baroque keyboard music to Chopin in his anniversary year, an Ysäye solo violin sonata and even a specially-commissioned new work from Irish composer Ronan Guilfoyle.

It promises to be another great series; I hope to see you there.
