Cahal Masterson Piano Con Brio Music Series

Programme:

Granados Goyescas Op11 (IV. Quejas, o La Maja y el Ruiseñor)
Beethoven Sonata no 30 in E major, Op109
Schumann Kinderszenen
Bartók Out of Doors Suite

A young upcoming pianist from Belfast, Cahal has performed throughout the UK and Ireland, and has given performances in Europe as well as US and Canada. In May 2019 he completed his postgraduate studies, graduating with a Master’s in Music Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. In April 2018 he recorded his inaugural CD – Transition. This concert is part of Con Brio’s policy to encourage young Irish talent North and South. Cahal presents an interesting programme of romantic music, including one of Beethoven’s last piano sonatas. If Beethoven’s symphonies are his public pronouncements, his piano sonatas are his personal diary. And the last three, of which this is the first, are the most intimate and private pages.

Kinderszenen, Scenes from Childhood, by Robert Schumann, is a set of thirteen pieces of music for piano written in 1838. The 13 pieces showcase their creator’s musical imagination at the peak of its poetic clarity. Written in 1926, the Out of Doors Suite is a collection of five brief and atmospheric pieces for solo piano: extremely exciting music to listen to.
